Market Notes
Germany-built; the United States was the dominant export market, with additional European sales.

Amphicar was a German-built amphibious passenger-car marque centered on the Model 770. Produced during the 1960s, the car combined conventional road use with a watertight body and twin propellers for operation on water. Its name and 770 designation reflected the dual-purpose idea: roughly seven knots on water and seventy miles per hour on land under favorable conditions. Fewer than four thousand were built, with the United States becoming the most important export market. The Amphicar remains one of the most recognizable attempts to make a genuinely civilian road-and-water automobile.
