Bertone began in Turin in 1912 as Giovanni Bertone’s coachbuilding business and grew into one of Italy’s most influential automotive design houses. Under Nuccio Bertone, the company shaped landmark vehicles for Alfa Romeo, Lamborghini, Lancia, Fiat and many others. Bertone also moved beyond contract design into vehicle production, including manufacturing the X1/9 under its own name after Fiat withdrew the model. The original company collapsed in the 2010s, but the Bertone name has since been revived for new limited-production projects.
