German automobile marque that evolved from agricultural machinery and scooter production into small cars during the 1950s. Glas first found success with the tiny Goggomobil and later moved into larger sedans, coupés and V8 grand tourers. Rapid expansion strained the independent company, and BMW acquired Glas in 1966. Some Glas-developed vehicles continued briefly with BMW badging before the marque disappeared.
