American General Motors marque introduced in 1926 as a companion to Oakland. Pontiac quickly outgrew its parent marque and became a core GM division, later cultivating a strong performance image through cars such as the GTO, Firebird and Trans Am while also selling mainstream family vehicles. General Motors discontinued Pontiac during its post-financial-crisis restructuring, with final vehicles produced for the 2010 model year.
