Bentley Motors was founded by W. O. Bentley in 1919, with the first production 3 Litre delivered in 1921. Early Bentleys established the marque through engineering ambition and major endurance-racing victories, particularly at Le Mans. Rolls-Royce acquired Bentley in 1931, after which the badge increasingly represented a sporting counterpart to Rolls-Royce luxury. Volkswagen Group acquired the modern marque in 1998 and rebuilt Bentley around models such as the Continental GT, Flying Spur and Bentayga. Bentley remains centered on high-performance luxury and hand-finished production in Crewe.
