Berkeley Cars was a British manufacturer that produced lightweight sports cars and three-wheelers between 1956 and 1960. Working with fiberglass specialist Berkeley Coachworks and designer Lawrie Bond, the company created compact front-wheel-drive machines powered largely by motorcycle-derived engines. Their low weight and unconventional construction made them lively despite modest displacement. Roughly four thousand vehicles were produced before the company failed financially. Berkeley occupies an unusual space between the British sports-car tradition and the postwar microcar movement.
