Buick is one of America’s oldest surviving automobile marques and was central to the formation of General Motors. David Dunbar Buick’s company became known early for overhead-valve engines, and its success helped William C. Durant build the GM organization. Buick traditionally occupied a position above Chevrolet but below Cadillac in GM’s North American hierarchy, producing everything from large luxury cars to performance models such as the Grand National. In more recent decades, China became one of Buick’s most important markets alongside North America.
