Cadillac was established in Detroit in 1902 and quickly built a reputation around precision manufacturing and interchangeable components. The marque later became General Motors’ principal luxury division and introduced or popularized technologies including electric starting, large-production V8 engines and numerous comfort features. Cadillac’s twentieth-century identity became closely tied to American luxury, distinctive styling and large-displacement engines. Today the brand sells sedans, SUVs and electric vehicles while attempting to position itself as a global luxury competitor beyond its traditional North American base.
