Italian performance marque founded in Modena by Argentine-born racer Alejandro de Tomaso. Early sports and competition cars led to road models including the Vallelunga and Mangusta, while the Ford-powered Pantera became the company’s best-known product. De Tomaso also controlled marques including Maserati for a period. The original business eventually failed, but the De Tomaso name has since been revived for limited-production performance cars.
