American marque founded by former General Motors executive John Z. DeLorean. Its sole original production model, the DMC-12, combined a stainless-steel body, gullwing doors, a rear-mounted PRV V6 and a chassis engineered with substantial Lotus involvement. Cars were built in Northern Ireland from 1981 until the company collapsed in 1982. The DMC-12 later became a major cultural icon, ensuring unusually strong recognition for such a short-lived marque.
