American marque introduced by Chrysler for the 1929 model year as the corporation expanded into additional price classes. DeSoto occupied a position between Chrysler’s lower-priced and premium offerings and produced sedans, coupes, wagons and performance-oriented models through several stylistic eras. Chrysler discontinued the marque after the 1961 model year as its market position increasingly overlapped other divisions.
