Italian sports-car marque founded by Enzo Ferrari, whose earlier Scuderia Ferrari operation had been deeply involved in motor racing. The first car to carry the Ferrari name, the 125 S, appeared in 1947 with a compact V12 engine. Ferrari developed road cars alongside an enduring competition program, particularly Formula One, and became one of the world’s most recognizable performance marques while maintaining comparatively limited production.
