American automobile marque produced in Syracuse, New York, from the early twentieth century until the 1930s. Franklin distinguished itself through air-cooled engines at a time when most competitors adopted water cooling, and many of its cars also used lightweight construction and distinctive engineering. The company moved increasingly upscale during the 1920s but struggled during the Depression and ceased automobile production in 1934.
