German supercar marque founded by former Audi executive Roland Gumpert. Its principal production model, the Apollo, was conceived as a road-legal car with unusually strong circuit capability and entered production in 2005. The Apollo used a twin-turbocharged Audi-derived V8 and extreme aerodynamic engineering. Gumpert’s original company later entered insolvency; its assets and legacy subsequently contributed to the Apollo Automobil operation.
