Australian automobile marque descended from a nineteenth-century saddlery and later body-building business. General Motors acquired Holden in 1931, and the first car marketed as an Australian Holden, the 48-215, entered production in 1948. Holden became deeply embedded in Australian motoring through sedans, utilities and performance derivatives. Local manufacturing ended in 2017 and General Motors retired the Holden marque in 2020.
