American automobile marque founded in Detroit in 1909. Hudson built a reputation for comparatively advanced engineering and became particularly notable after the Second World War for its low-slung ‘step-down’ construction and successful Hornet models. Hudson merged with Nash-Kelvinator in 1954 to create American Motors Corporation. The Hudson name continued briefly afterward before disappearing, while its corporate lineage became part of AMC.
