Japanese automobile marque whose corporate roots began in cork manufacturing before moving into machinery and vehicles. Mazda’s first passenger car, the R360 coupe, appeared in 1960. The company became particularly associated with rotary engines through vehicles such as the Cosmo, RX-7 and RX-8, while the Familia and MX-5 broadened its reach. Mazda remains a distinct Japanese marque with a long history of engineering partnerships.
