Introduced at the 1985 Geneva Motor Show, the Autobianchi Y10 was a stylish, avant-garde supermini that revolutionized luxury city car design. Developed as the successor to the legendary A112, the Y10 brought aerodynamic efficiency, crisp wedge styling, and high-end Italian design to the compact urban segment.
Under the bonnet, the Y10 introduced Fiat’s newly developed FIRE inline-four engine family in 1.0-liter and 1.1-liter displacements, alongside more powerful options like a turbocharged 1.0-liter unit and a 1.3-liter engine. Transmitting power through a 5-speed manual or automatic gearbox, it offered exceptional fuel efficiency, agile handling, and an optional four-wheel-drive system engineered with help from Steyr-Daimler-Puch.
Produced through 1995 across three distinct series, the Y10 achieved massive success, especially in markets where it was rebadged as the Lancia Y10. Known for its distinct vertical black tailgate, plush Alcantara interior trim options, and slippery 0.31 drag coefficient, it established a whole new market for premium, fashionable micro-compacts and paved the way for the later Lancia Ypsilon line.
