Autobianchi was an Italian marque created through cooperation among bicycle and automobile maker Bianchi, Fiat and Pirelli. Beginning in the 1950s, it became a useful proving ground for small-car concepts and technologies that could later influence Fiat and Lancia products. The Bianchina established the marque, while the Primula pioneered a front-wheel-drive packaging layout important to later Fiat development. Autobianchi eventually came fully under Fiat control and gradually disappeared as its models and market position were absorbed, particularly into Lancia.
